it was watchin/listenin to tis more than 16 years ago
when i was primary 1 tat in time gotten me into music and
photography..especially black and white...those whu noe
me since sch days would noe my killer black n white
photographs...i thought the mtv was done in a great manner..
the cropping..the lighting...the photographs..
and most impt the screenplay...amazing...if you can
differentiate,the lead guitar and steel lap seems to
cry out the sad sombre truth of the lyrics...
now if u noticed..the whole mv was in black n white...
only @ the start n end for 2 seconds there was colour...
if u look closely..the Earth was shown in colour then
faded into B/W..i tot that was a great touch...
fuck,wong kar wai shud really learn from tis and
stop churning out rubbish in B/W....tis is
real deal B/W tat played contrast(both photography,
artistically n literally) to the max...nuff said...

as i mentioned earlier on in the Shinji Tanimura post...alot of
jap music was used to make songs in the 80s...well into the
90s it was still more or less the same...Hideaki Tokunaga(德永英明)
was another jap guy whose music was covered heavily...His debut
single Rainy Blue in 1986 was covered by Jacky Cheung (蓝雨)..
it produce the biggest hit in jacky's 2nd album in tat same year..

he probably defined Asian music in the 90s...and again jacky
cheung took one of his best works Manatsu no Kajitsu(theme song
of Kuwata's own 1991 film Inamura Jane) and turned it into
每天爱你多一些.Kuwata's original version was really pop in
jpn but jacky sent it into outer space wif his rendition...
tis song actually revived jacky's career...

the next year..jacky took another Kuwata song and made it

but..many many years later...sum KOREAN guy covered it as
the theme song for 2001 SBS korean drama PIANO...i watched
it in 2002 and i tot it was the only watchable Korean drama
to date..mainly coz of Jo Jae-Hyun(赵在玄)..the baddie uncle
in the drama tat tried to turn gd...his actin was great in Piano.
in his dying scenes in Piano... he was reachin Chow Yun-Fat's
performance in the 1980 TVB drama The Bund(上海滩)...
Now as i was watchin Piano..it was catchin fire in Taiwan
as the K-drama to watch..So much so they did a mandarin
version of the theme song...rookie 范逸臣 covered it and
got famous...talk abt recycling for the environment..lol..

ok..i stumbled upon this while surfin the net..i guess every1
definitely heard the song Without You b4...Most probably the
versions by Air Supply or Mariah Carey...But for me it would
be Harry Nilsson's(pic abv)1972 version...i tot tat was the original..
LOL was i wrong after all tis while...The very first and
original version was by British rock group Badfingers in 1970.
now the reason im postin tis is becoz theres a really tragic
story tat revolved around tis song...Badfingers was a rock
group from Wales and the members Peter Ham and Thomas Evans
wrote the song in 1970..it wasnt really their taste but still
they cut it in their album No Dice..2 years later Nilsson..
whose from the US heard it and covered it...He won himself
a best vocal performance in the Grammys tat very year for
his rendition of Without You...Nilsson credited Badfingers'
Peter Ham and Thomas Evans for it..but..Badfingers' manager
sumhow made the royalties go into his own pocket...after 3
years of struggle...Peter Ham was desperate n disillusioned
and he hanged himself in 1975...8 years on....co-writer Tom
Evans ended his own life in 1983 in a similar manner due to the
very same reason as Ham...Now Nilsson was flying high in the 70s
with 2 Grammys and a shit load of hits but it soon went down
as he went back to ALCOHOL fulltime...he was dissapointin
thru out the 80s and in the meantime his financial adviser
RIPPED all his money he ever earnt and left him an ass full
of debts in 1991...now he wakes up and stop drinkin..he was back
writin songs and started to do a new album...well he finished
recordin the vocal tracks for the album in 1994 but he died
that very night of a heart attack...wad a twist of fate...
really sad...well i think Mr Nilsson's version of Without
You was really to the MAX...although Badfingers' version
was really close.. u can really feel it in his voice..
the way he projected it...The Air Supply/Mariah Carey
versions was juz a display of vocal abilities in my opinion..
didnt really like it..although im quite a fan of air supply..
well RIP guys...

depression king of Cantopop and maybe all time...He was an ultra
talented composer.He shot to fame in 1977,winning the HK Pop
Song Composition comp..He was really good on the ivories...
His works are needless to mention if u're a cantopop junkie..
But gradually he went into a depressed mood with the rise of
ppl like andy lau and aaron kwok..which was deemed untalented
and was juz famous for lookin gd...i think he really took pride
in his work..then he fell into the arms of alcoholism and later
amphetamines in the late 80s..then in May 1992 he was found
unconscious and stayed in coma for 17 months till his
parents decided to put him off the life support device which
kept him alive in Oct 1993...

Now Danny was good frens wif Leslie Cheung(张国荣) and HK
famous actor/host Paul Chung(钟保罗)..they were being labelled
as 三剑侠(3 musketeers)..in the end all 3 of them more or less
ended their own lifes...Paul was in an ass full of debt from
failed ventures into securities n property...and in 1989 he
jumped from his 26th floor Sha Tin condo..he was 30...few years
later Danny died...Then..Leslie in 2004 April 1st..jumped
from 24th floor of Mandarin oriental hotel in HK...Guess Paul n
Danny was lonely and wanted a reunion...RIP guys...
